In Reply To: Hi, There are basically three ways that the 200 companies will respond to your resumes 1) Many companies will have no openings right now and will not respond to your resume (this unfortunately will be quite a few of the 200). That is part of the game and you need to be prepared for it. 2) A VERY small # of companies will immediately see a fit and invite you for an interview. THis is great..but you need to remember that this is an employers market and there are many candidates and too few job openings. So this will be a very small number out of the 200...(maybe 2 out of 200) 3) A good number of companies (at least 20 out of the 200) would be interested in your qualifications. The hiring manager may have kept your resume aside, intending to call you about a current or future opportunity. (but frankly...caught up in day to day tasks, they may not have gotten around to it) If you give them a call..they will be happy to speak with you. You can most probably get an informational interview from them and also be top of the list for future opportunities. By calling each and every company that has not yet responded...my bet is that you will speak to at least 20 interested hiring managers who were intending to call you (but never got around to it) Just pick up the phone and call. It is scary but it is the most effective way. You actually will become a person to them rather then just a sheet of paper. Be prepared to sweet talk many secretaries and understand that you may have to call several times to reach a hiring manager. All the best. Let us know how it goes..I think you should get 20 good responses but I'd love to know the results of your campaign.
Message: it might take to: * Find missing tel. #s * Get through to a live person * Get a hiring authority on the phone and convince them to listen to you * Make your "pitch" * Repeat, 199 times or perhaps even many more than that (for callbacks to those "too busy to talk, or in a meeting"). How long do think it might take someone to do all that? THAT long? Tell me: would YOU do it? Oh. Didn't think so.
