I just had an interview for an IB, since the IB is an arm for a big national CB My interviewer was a HR person. Interestingly, when i told the interviewer that my interest is in S & T, he kind of dazed for a few seconds and then for the next 20 mins he asked me accounting questions.
No, he did not ask me about my sales skills, nor my ability to handle stress, last but not least my understanding of the Market. Just accounting questions. I know a bit about accounting, so i can answer the basic questions ok. I kept on trying to turn the topic to sales and trading but he kept on going with what he knows the best.
Later on i found out that this is the first time the IB is doing organized interview for summer internship. And the interviewer used to only sort out loan officers for the CB. After talking to several people who have interviewed with him for other positions in the bank, I found out that Accounting questions are the only thing he asks! And chances are he has no idea with S&T is. So what? The Ibank would only hire accountants to do their M&A and S&T? Don't let the traders know about this, they are going to laugh their ass off.
This is an extremely poor reflection on the firm. And further proves that HR is STUPID.

HR's want to have what I call "Rejection Power". My husband's HR turned him down for a possible project because she didn't understand what the buzzwords meant. When he told her, she was like "Oh, well, you're still not qualified".
AVOID THEM!
