The hiring process today is one big process of elimination; not selection.
Therefore, things like DUIs or misdemeanors or other things your parents weren't rich enough to get you out of, can be used to justify turning you down, if that is what an employer wishes to do.
If someone at the BBIB didn't like you and knows about your misdemeanor, they could use that fact to rationalize an otherwise irrational decision to rescind an offer to you.
Just one of the many insidious results of allowing our private lives to become the "proper" subject of an investigation...for consideration of employment, renting an apartment, getting car insurance, and all the rest.
It's all about DISqualifying you...from voting, from getting a job, getting a good interest rate, etc.
