If you have already gotten the offer, the point is mute. Don't mention it. Don't give them a reason to retract the offer. Remeber, in this economy you don't have the job until you start work on day one. Telling them you got laid off, might give them a reason to postpone bringing you on board while some HR person checks your claim. Believe me! Anything can happen during that time. I just lost a job due to a postponement. I had the offer in my hand and the company postponed my start date for one week because the manager I would be reporting too was out of town. When he got back, he called me 2 days before I was to start to tell me there were some organizational changes and that an internal candidate was now availabe going for the position. Offer retracted.
Don't mention it.

A common mistake but, you mean moot point, not mute point. Mute means unable to speak. Moot means debatable - a moot point is debatable or questionable.
