I had an employer that sent me through a seven day Covey course, but to this day, I just want someone to "show me the money", so I will have enough money to retire when the time comes.
Anyway, I don't believe all that crap they taught us in business school. It's pretty disheartening when you bust your bum to learn that stuff, and then it's really not practiced in business, or the concepts are totally misused.
Dr. Phil??? If you haven't already done so, I would suggest reading some good Buddhist literature. It has helped me to learn to become detached from things and clear my mind.
We have something in common, I used to work in the i-banking biz and made a decent living. Ah ... yes ... those were the good ole days. I also have worked for a large British company. I thought they would be less ruthless than the i-banking biz. This was not the case. In fact, after having worked many years for either attorneys or bankers, I have found them to be the most honest to work for. I can't say the same for many of the corporate managers. |

I too thought Covey was a bit too "let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya". I agree - show me the money.
My "problem" is that I have worked for German banks (I am fluent in German as well as two or three Eastern European languages), most notably WestLB, Deutsche and BHF Bank AG (which underwent so many transformations that they eventually de-banked and became BHF [USA] Capital Corp.).
I now work for a German-speaking (but a non-German) organization. And the bureaucracy is stifling, the managment dictatorial and the morale non-existent. I feel I am squandring the MBA I worked so hard to earn.
The best days were at BHF - all the heavy hitters were Americans, or Germans who had been "Americanized". From 1994 through about 1999 I had a blast. Then ING acquired the German parent and it all went to KaKa. I had been "downsized" from Deutsche and vowed never to be put in to that position again. I jumped ship solely on the fact that at my current employer I have former colleagues from WestLB, Deutsche, BHF and my first banking job - EAB.
As for the next job, well lets just say I know some people at Allied Irish and at ANZ Bank here in NYC. And even if the salary change were nominal I would be out the door in a NY minute.
Anyway - nice to know there are others in the same boat as me.
Have a Happy (and healthy) New Year. Here's hoping we get the jobs we deserve.
