In Reply To: I took the first job offer that came along after college. I didn't care about the job, and certainly didn't want to do it, but it beat doing nothing. Well, now its almost 6 months later, I'm performing horribly in my position. I really don't like what I do. Most of all, I don't want to get tracked down the wrong path this early in my career. The people I work for admit that I seem extremely bright and capable, but unmotivated. They couldn't be more right - I am not at all motivated by my current position or company. Any advice? I'm not even asking for I-banking or M&A valuation anymore - just something in commercial lending here locally might be enough. Again, advice?
Message: A year and a half ago after college I took the first job offer I got simply because it was better then doing nothing. Well the job turned out to be well beneath my education and was tedious and boring so I soon became miserable. Even though I was miserable I still performed as well as I could however. A year later I got out of that, changed fields completely and have been learning a whole new set of skills. As other people have wrote on this discussion work is work, I don't believe you can ever love work as long as your working for someone else. We just have to make the best of our situations, put a positive spin on it and move on. Hopefully in the future people like us will all be in business for ourselves and will be trully happy with our work.
