I've come to believe that most HR people are morons who majored in a useless major in college and are bitter at where they wound up. I don't even bother with them anymore-just go directly to the hiring manager. And yes, I've been able to get quite a few interviews/phone conversations with managers after getting the brush-off from HR. |

HR, specially in a small company, is pretty much useless in the current economy.
In the company I worked at HR was more concerned with getting contributions from workers for charities, and publicising names of people who missed it. Also, she (it was a one woman department) was more concerned with linking up guys and girls romantically and passign rumors around driving the unsuspecting parties to distraction.
Also, one more technique she tried was to come up with reasons for firing people so that she could step in and recruit others for the position, removing people who were up to her and appointing persons who would thank her for the rest of their lives for giving them a job in this economy.
HR can be pretty sordid in their behaviour.
