How does M&A at JPM compare to other parts of the firm and other M&A groups on the Street?
Would this be a good place to summer? Thanks. |

There are four elements to an answer.
(1) Deal Flow/Position/Reputation
See
http://www.iddmagazine.com/idd/protected/idd_ma_tables011606.pdf
(2) Deal Cycle
JPMC-MS has already commented on this in another thread. Deal cycles are long. You therefore may only see "pieces" of the deal life cycle and not the entire life cycle. Realistically, of course, you should expect to do basic work.
(3)Work Environment
What is the team like?
No comment on that. You shouldn't read this "reluctance" as indicating anything one way or the other.
However, you are just in the group for a "summer fling" so this shouldn't be a big deal.
(4) Credential on your Resume
Well, it's not Goldman Sachs but it's a good one.
At the end of the day, your choice of a summer intership should be focused on positioning for your career.
What do you want to do with your life?
Also note that M&A is probably a highly ranked pick among many of your cohort. Again JPMC-MS has given some suggestions on positioning.
If you want a personal opinion, I'd apply for M&A.
