Thanks RGardens for all your insights and suggestions.
To further elaborate my work experience in Financial Services has been in the following areas: Retail banking sales, Project Management and Portfolio Management (financial planning and sales)
I am trying to make a switch into commercial/corporate banking. I have a MBA with a specialization in finance but ALL commercial banks that I have applied to require credit experience or a bank training program. Robert Morris publications are only avaliable to Members and have to be working with a bank or a finance company to be eligible for membership.
I am extremely committed to a career in Corporate banking. I would like to be in NYC but am not very location specific. Thanks again. |

Within a bank, there may also be an indirect route ...
You apply for a relationship manager position and then transition to credit.
You apply for a position in credit review/audit or macro credit portfolio management (stats skills will be important here) and then try to move to the micro level.
For this sort of a position, you could look to the GARP FRM designation which is a one year home study course.
There is another group PRIA or some such which has its own professional certificate
You could also look into what possibilities there would be in fixed income research at an investment bank like B1
--------------------
No offense intended but you do need to get a bit more aggressive in your searcyh.
Example --- I don't work in credit and obviously have given you a bit of wrong information on Robert Morris Associates.
They've changed their name.
But were I to use ice cubes in my "Glen", they wouldn't even have warmed 1 degree before a simple Google search turned up
Robert Morris Associates is now Risk Management Association
http://www.rmahq.org/RMA/
A few more seconds searching and I turned up all sorts of stuff available to non members. It costs a bit more but ...
RMA Journal non members $95 versus $60.
Fundamentals of Financial Statement Analysis $365 for nm's and $265 for m's.
They also offer credit risk certification exam but this requires 2 or so years credit experience to be eligible.
A catch 22 for you right now, but something to remember if you approach your goal in an indirect fashion and need a
credential for our credential oriented society.
