First of all, TMT has gone through continual big changes. Not sure if that's over yet. Lots of San Fran bankers have left over time. Much of the old TMT group used to be Hambrecht & Quist, a San Fran IB bought by Chase. Eventually the culture (and control) of the JPMorgan crew kind of overran the old H&Q. The Tech piece of TMT basically has a different business model than other the other non-tech IB sectors and this has been a constant problem.
I can't speak accurately to how life in JPM's TMT compares to the various other TMT groups on the street. But, I would guess that there are better IB sector coverage teams in JPM to join than TMT.
I wouldn't believe anything that says analysts or interns in New York don't work weekends. Expect 80-90 hour weeks, 6 or 7 days. |

Bad sign if you're asking about hours. You've sign up for IB. You've also signed away a far amount of your life. Even hinting that you're hoping for weekends off can get you a bad label as someone who just 'doesn't get IB'.
