In Reply To: I am in the process of interviewing for this positon and need to know the base salary as soon as possible. Also, what is the average commision check like? Finally, is the promotion really as great as the recruiters suggest? Thanks for your help!
Message: I don't mean to sound negative but want to give you an honest opinion. There have been many changes in the personal banker position since the merger with Bank One. Expect to be offered a salary in the range of $35K-$45K with no potential for a raise. The rest of your salary comes from monthly commissions. If you work hard you can probably earn $1,000 a month in commissions on top of your salary. The bankers earning the six figure salaries are the ones that have been with the bank for a long time and have a huge list of top clients that they have aquired and inherited over the years. The personal banker position is also monitored hourly meaning that if you come in 1 hour late you have to stay 1 hour longer at work or skip your lunch hour. The good news is that you are eligible for overtime if you work over 40 hours. The bad news is that they strongly discourage that and they are reluctant to pay overtime. Since the B1 merger there has been little to no promotional opportunity in the retail bank unless you want to become a branch manager or even a district manager. Those pay well but they are thankless jobs with little respect in the firm. You will also have to wear a uniform very soon to be a personal banker which you have to pay for. In fact all retail bank employees will be wearing them.
