In Reply To: I am very interested in your thoughts on cross LOB career moves at JPM. I am an H-B1 guy stuck in a dying (or dead, depending on who you talk to) LOB. I have found it very difficult to move outside of my LOB. I am sure the part of this is because I am not in New York, Chicago or Texas, but I can??t help but wonder if there is an institutional impediment somewhere that I am not seeing. I am interested to hear your take on it. By the way, I have excellent credentials, two graduate degrees from well respected universities (not Ivy, but top 20 MBA and high 2nd Quartile Law), strong experience and solid reviews (I do have a manager has a policy of never giving ??Exceeds Expectations?? on reviews). JPMC-MS & RGardens ?? I enjoyed your discussion below on Corporate Strategy. I don??t really know what the trading positions looks like so I can??t comment intelligently on that piece. I do agree with RGardens on the TSS results. I think that TSS has straightened out some of its issues, in terms of revenue generation, but much of the YOY increase is due to the factors he listed. In terms of mergers ?? DJ said recently that we will grow organically over the next year, that most of the major ??pruning?? is not, and he does not foresee any major mergers in the next year (paraphrased). I wonder what he considers a minor merger or a pruning.
Message: OD, long time since our paths crossed. Your question regarding institutional impediments is a bit beyond my experience. JPMC-MS is the right guy for a response. But not knowing the answer to the specific question hasn't stopped me from offering some advice. As a prelude understand you want to move from one LOB in Ops to another LOB Ops. (1) Are you willing to relocate? (2) When you've got a Richardskopf for a boss life is difficult. Especially since the review is your passport within the firm to another LOB. Does this guy get a bonus for keeping down the annual increase in his department's payroll and bonus? Or is he a real Richardskopf - does stuff for no apparent rational reason? Doesn't sound like he'll be a lot of help. (3) Doesn't sound like there are a lot of networking opportunities as you might have in a bigger center. Take it that the internal job posting hasn't offered any opps. That constrains your ability to go around him. Have you tried your "HR Partner" route? (4) So time to move on and out of Mother B1? Sounds like you've got the credentials and the experience. -------------------- Merger - Agreed DJ is the "Fortress Balance Sheet" guy and no doubt wants his ops and expenses on a "sound" basis before moving on. But if one of the few remaining retail big fish looks like it might be landed by someone else, he may be "forced" to move.
