In Reply To: I just received an I-Banking offer from JP, and am torn between this and a boutique. The boutique is paying more (turns out to be around $90K when u add the bonuses) and has less hours. JP has the name and large deal flows. Which one to accept? Any suggestions would be very helpful. P.S. I also got an offer from Bear, but I'm not sure where that firm is headed!?! any views on this? Thanks.
Message: The answer to your question is a series of questions. (1) What is your long term career plan? Where do you want to wind up and what do you want to do for the rest of your life? (2) How do these options advance or not advance that long term goal? Some considerations here would be (a) the worth of the firm on your resume (credential), (b) the experience you will get (c) the exposure you will get to the industry/deal flow/clients, (d) what your intended final field is and the respective firm's relative strengths (3) In the interim, what sacrifices are you prepared to make? In other words just how important is your ultimate goal? Will you wander in the desert with Moses to reach the promised land? While at your stage in your career no initial choice will be fatal, you could either set yourself forward or backward in terms of your long term goal.
