Message Name: Why didn't you apply to trading?
Date Posted: 02/02/2006
In Reply To: I just received my offer to work for JPM Operations. My main goal is to trade and I was hoping to transition into it after my year in Operations. But I am hearing that this is a bad idea and I will find a lot of resistance. Any advice or suggestions before I accept?
Message: If you wanted trading, you should have applied to that program. If you're trying to use Ops as a back door to trading, you might be very frustrated. It will be a slow process to prove yourself for a front office role like that. And if you're using it as a back door because you didn't get an offer from the Trading program, (as cruel as it may sound) you might want to consider why you didn't get the offer. They may have thought you were not a good culture fit or personality type for the role.
