Does starting a career in asset management at a small firm prevent you from moving to the bigger firms later on? |

It's very difficult to say because each person's career tends to be very idiosyncratic in this business.
Often, smaller firms tend to focus more on a particular product or asset class. Many times, small firms will be running more in that particular product than a large firm will (i.e. the firm is small but all of its assets are [x], while only a small percentage of the big firm's assets are).
It depends much more on the reputation and ability of the firm rather than size alone. Many smaller firms are better regarded than firms several times their size.
