I'm at the UofMN - Twin Cities in honors at the business school (Carlson) majoring in Finance. I'm really interested in IM and VC as a future career. To tell you the truth, at first I was really interested in IB because of the money and that's how I found this site, but after reading extensively I think I would really enjoy IM or VC work. I realize I don't come from a "target" school, but I know of people in the past that have gone to GS, Bain, and some other upper tier companies from my college, so I know it's not impossible as long as I work at it. On to my questions...
First off, I really want to work outside the US, preferably in Europe. I'm going to do a semester abroad in a program with the European Union and take German throughout college. What are the chances of getting a position in Germany in my situation?
I plan on joining some financial related clubs, but have a question on internships to get experience in the field. I should be able to secure internships in Minneapolis in my later years in college in these fields, but during the summer I live in a small town (~140,000 metro area) without a large availability of finance jobs. What types of jobs could I expect to find to show interest in the field in this situation? Would basic jobs at local banks help? Or is that too different from my future career interests? Thanks in advance. |

when i was an undergrad at a target uk school, i want doing a fin or bus degree,a nd didnt get an internship, so i walked into a vc office in my home cityin the summer, and get offered unpaid wexp, but i needed income over the summer, and didnt really want to be a vc, so i left it, and stayed in occasional touch with a principle. basically i could have gotten the work exp, and may have been able to wangle a low paid junior analyst job on grad if i had pushed hard and shown i wanted it, but there is no way id have gotten in through a hr fronted applications process.
