I have a CFA, and was an analyst on both sides of the street and a PM for a while. I have never met, nor have I heard of, a single equity portfolio manager with the Ph.D.
Maybe such an animal exists. Probably handing out by the campfire with Bigfoot. |

Let me just clarify that I didn't say that PhD's were mandatory for equity PMs. I said they were mandatory for quant-based structured and currency PM roles. My experience is also that PhD's were more cerebral and less effective for inefficient markets than the norm. (Ask Long Term Capital) Read the post again Willy.
