Do Morgan Stanley or Merrill Lynch offices in Chicago do any equity research or is it all done in New York. I ask from the point of view of job opportunities.

I don't know about MS, but most of Merrill's U.S equity research is done in NYC.
Joe Osha and a couple of the other tech analysts are out in San Francisco. I'm sure there are a few analysts scattered around the country, but 90-95% is done in NYC.
