In Reply To: Are you an undergrad or do you already have some full-time experience? Some firms are pretty strict when it comes to hiring associates--undergrads only. I think Pequot is one of the hardest firms to get a front office job at,and I doubt they hire undergrads (I could be wrong). For Fidelity, go to their website specifically for Equity Research Analysts/Associates, which will give you some contact information. As I said, those firms don't really like to advertise the position on their websites, since they are very specific about where they recruit from. Then, you have to be more aggressive--try to find a way to talk to the HR people. Network--know any friends who know an analyst at one of these firms? If you go to one of the schools I mentioned, try to contact one of the alumni who works in the buy-side. In this job market, networking is more immportant than ever. Good luck. K
Message: HBSCFA, I read your last post about most top firms recruiting via undergrad/grad schools. My situation is that I've been out of school for the past three years and working as a portfolio accountant for a bank. I am in the process of going back to school for my MBA but would like to get my foot in the door, sort of speak, for a hedge fund company doing research. I've spoken to several headhunters and they all seem to be very negative about the idea. Is there a way that I could possibly enter this field? I am more than willing to work my way to the top, and paying my dues. Thanks and by the way, all your prior posts have been extremely helpful. Much appreciated.
