In Reply To: Context: I am a McK BA (BA from Columbia in economics; 3.5 cum GPA). I think i can get 700+ on GMAT but don't think i can get above 170 on LSAT. Questions: 1) Which is better--MBA from HWS (Harvard, Wharton, Stanford) or JD from CCN (Columbia, Chicago, NYU)--for an eventual career in LBO/PE/hedge/VC? 2) Would JD (and its rigorous training) be more useful/helpful to function as a banker? (I have seen a few M&A bankers and LBO/PE guys who wished they had JD with some courses taken at b-school rather than their MBAs) Thanks in advance.
Message: You need to make some decisions first... Which are you interested in? PD/VC/or Hedge Fund, and what kind of hedge fund? I'd stick with the MBA...although you can get a dual degree. I know several folks who have done both. If you're looking at VC, I'd forget Wharton. If you're looking at PE or HF, I'd forget Stanford.
