In Reply To: I'm considering doing the CFA off my own back next summer - my employers won't help me out or give me time off, so I'm keen to see exactly what I'm going to have to cover for it (since I'm hoping not to have to study too much). I've got a Masters in Econ and Finance and worked as a credit analyst for a year so I guess you can comment on that, but I really want to see a past paper - could anyone tell me where to look. Thanks a lot.
Message: To address your post by issue: 1. You don't need to have time off to study especially for Level I. AIMR recommends 250-300 hrs, which breaks down to about 15-20 hrs per week for 4-5 months. Even less if you are using prep course providers (Allen Resources, Stalla, or Schweser notes seem to be the most popular). Word of advice, sign up soon - first deadline is mid-Sept and registration fees increase exponentially after that date. 2. Masters in Econ and Finance will help you on about half the topics (still need to go through the material to concentrate on the nuances and specifics of what's covered). And working as a credit analyst should also help you a lot on accounting, although this is the most difficult on Level I and II and is worth 25%. Will need to study Ethics and Quant, but both are very straight forward for LI. 3. As for past papers, you're not going to find any on aimr.org yet, but they will post the morning section of last year's exam when the study guides for '03 come out. In the meantime, check out the prep course providers' web sites that I mentioned before and also peruse the posts on: analystforum.com dennisdugan.com Good Luck!
