I have been trying to break into Research for the last year and a half. I recently passed Level II and have two masters' degree ( engineering and MBA and over 7 yrs of industrial experience). However with no IM experience you are facing an uphill task. Just passing the exam is not gonna help. You need to come up with your own investment ideas and develop your reports based on whom you are sending it to -buy-side or sell-side. Even then, with the market being what it is, there are tons of Research guys with experience and no jobs willing to work for a lot less than before. So there.. not trying to discourage.. but u gotta work real hard... and network real hard. I still have not got anything.. but I am not giving up yet...Good luck!! |

I know someone with the same background as you (masters in engineering and MSF) and all 3 levels of CFA passed and he is an intern doing photocopies for the sales guys. It's not a good environment right now.
