I want to be a stock analyst on a mutual fund or elsewhere, but have no experience picking stocks anywhere (one year experience as a mutual fund analyst). I've passed level I of the CFA and was wondering if that alone will be enough.
Also, given my goals, is there any earthly reason to pursue an MBA in Finance. If not, what do I do to get stock analyst position? |

If I were you, I would first recognize that it won't happen overnight because the job market is beyond horrible right now for analysts. Where are you located? I don't know what kind of mutual fund analyst you are, but if you have direct contact with portfolio managers, I would build relationships with them and let them know your long-terms goals. Once you complete the CFA (or maybe even just Level 2) go back to them and let them know that you are actively looking to make the jump. You need to network into these roles now, as the talent pool is huge and the job market stinks. Join a local AIMR group and get to know people in your area in the industry. Keep your ears open and be creative. Good luck,
-D
