In Reply To: I was thinking about registering for the CFA exam in 2003 but I am worried about not getting the job experience to qualify for the designation. I would hate to pass all three levels and have my time expire due to no applicable job experience. If I understand correctly to qualify a person must be making investment decisions 50% of the time. I have a current opportunity in the back office (It sucks but its a shitty market) but I know that apples and oranges when comparing the skill sets. Can AIMR help a person who is passing tests get into a position so he can eventually qualify for the CFA. If I sign up I would wait until I complete level 2 before trying appeal for an opportunity to gain the necessary experience. Any comments advice is welcomed? Thanks
Message: This is similar to the post I left you elsewhere. Frankly, considering the cost is relatively low, I think there is little, if any downside in taking these exams. However you look at it, even if you fail to accrue the right job experience for a long time, you will be much better off passing the exams (even without the official CFA designation).
