This is a bad time to try to break into the investment field!!!! You should try some firms near the DC area. Friedman, Billings Ramsey (FBR) is one and then there is always Legg Mason & TRowe in Baltimore.
But, from what I understand those firms, have been in hiring freezes for most of the year.
Also, from what I know about the industry, the quality of life on the buy-side is not much better than the sell-side. |

How can you not mention Boston when talking about the buy-side? Boston is the fourth largest money management capital in the world (behind NYC, Tokyo and London) and is light-years ahead of Chicago and San Fran (ever hear of Fidelity, Putnam maybe?). If you want to be an analyst but don't like NYC, Boston by far has the most jobs.
