In Reply To: I am in need. I am graduating this spring w/ MBA from unranked university. I have vast work experience although none focuses on investments(because in grad school I discovered my interest for this field.) The quandary that I am in is that my school is noted for high compensations for Marketing, HR and other non-finance related concentrations. With compensation packages into 6 figures(including relocation and signing bonuses) I am trying to devise a route to break into this field and still make a decent wage. Should I try to compete for an undergraduate entry postion, or should I try the corporate route in the treasury or Corporate Development functions and then try to leverage that into an IM position when my experience will match up with my education. Any thoughts?
Message: I am a junior corporate associate in BIGLAW and do a substantial amount of private equity work. Does anyone know if it is possible to go from here to a private equity or hedge fund, not for a legal position, but as an investment associate? If so, what type and how many years of experience are usually needed? I know the market is tough right now, but I plan on getting another year or so in. Thanks.
