I didn't have a lot of options (due to work constraints) as to what MBA school I applied to this year and wound up accepted at the University of Washington... now I'm wondering if I should actually go or wait to apply again next year at schools that are more popular with the IM crowd. I plan to enroll in for CFA Level I this year either way, but I'm feeling conflicted about not going to a better known school vs. just getting it over with.
With an international relations degree (GMAT 650, GPA 3.32) from USC and a sketchy job history (incl. several busted startups) in market research analysis, I seem to have picked the most difficult path to switch to without a perfectly spotless record and life.
Any advice?

First, really evaluate what you would like to do for a career. Then ask yourself what you need to do to get yourself their.
If IM is what you want to do, then the CFA is a great step in the right direction.
Next, contact UW and ask what alumni have gone into the IM field. Contact them and get their advice. If you like what you hear, go for it.
I will say that although rankings are not everything, it would probably be easier to get into IM if you went to a higher ranked school. If this is what you think you need to do, then pass on UW, get that GMAT up to the 700's, write some great essays, and go to the school of your choice.
I'm not saying you shouldn't go to UW, I don't know much about that school. Just remember that getting an MBA is a big investment...you want a good return on that investment.
Good luck!
