Hi everyone. I'm really interested in becoming a market technical analyst. I am a senior and will graduate soon. I can't find any career specific info on this position, and I'm really grateful if anyone could give me any insight on the issue. I don't even know companies that employs technical analysts. The placement office where I'm at don't even know what the thing is because there's no specific course or major for this field. I do appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks! |

There are two types of technical analysis: one studies the position of the market: how many longs and shorts are outstanding, what inflows can be expected, etc. This is useful.
The other type is called charting, and I would suggest reading the chapter on it in Malkiel's "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" before wasting your career on such nonsense. Not to say you can't make a living on it... there's plenty of suckers out there. Just look at how popular palm readers and horoscopes are!
