I was wondering if I could get some opinion regarding my career aspirations.
Currently...
I am 25 yrs old, making $80 - 90/hr as an Independent Information Tech Consultant. I work maybe 8-10 months in a year. I majored in Econ as an undergrad. Although I am good at what I do and add value on my projects, I am not passionate about technology nor my job.
Where I would like to be...
I am studying for my CFA test level I, and with my Econ background, I believe I'm well prepared. I want to eventually start in equity research...(I'm not interested in fixed income, high yield bonds, etc). I am hoping I could leverage my understanding of the technology sector to become an analyst covering those companies...or at least work with senior analysts and PM's who manage tech funds.
Problem...
With minimal finance experience, I am constantly typecasted as the "technical" guy when I submit my resume.
Questions:
Is an MBA my only option to change careers?
Won't the CFA facilitate my career transition?..obviously I'd have to take a huge paycut but my decision isn't about money.
What do you guys think?
