In Reply To: of research, i have decided that IM would be the best career for me to pursue, from the description i'd love to be a portfolio manager. prior the my first visit to vault i had never heard of the CFA, i am in a London University and hope to work in IM in the states if possible. How can one obtain the CFA in london, how is this process done. I am an econ major from a well known school, how does one know if they are cut out to take the CFA exam, when would be the best time to study for it. also do you think it is a good idea to obtain a series 7 while in college. are there any other useful certificates that one could obtain while in college. also how does one go about sittin a CFA exam, are there any heavy fees. thanks for any questions that you may answer.
Message: the series 7 has to be sponsored by a broker/dealer so if you ain't working, you can't get it. as for the cfa, you have to have FINISHED your bachelor's. and then you get a packet from AIMR and it costs like 300 to register and 200 to take each test which is offered once a year. there are 3 levels which you take 1 a year. so if you are good and pass each year (annual pass rate is about 60 which goes down as you take the harder tests) after 3 years of taking tests and you've also got to work concurrently in a finance job (even accounting counts) you get your cfa designation. anyone can study for it and i think it's good info to know if you want to be a money manager. just go on to the aimr website and start looking around for info.
