Message: 70-80 sounds low to me. I think the lowest I've heard from my classmates is 85 base--and those tend to be the shops where the bonus is promised to be higher than average. Then you have to factor in the sign on bonus, relocation, etc. I tend to like a higher base because compensation is generally raised by a percentage six months to a year out. A big sign-on earns you nothing in years two, three . . . whereas that base will grow nicely. And, the base really represents your standard of living.
