In Reply To: You have to be very careful and specific when using anything involving the CFA on your resume. YOu cannot say "CFA Level 1 Candidate", for example, and any employer who know about the program, would also know about how you are allowed to use the designation. AIMR has VERY specifica guidelines on how you can use the CFA designation on things like resumes. Before you put that on your resume, I suggest reading AIMR's Standards of Practice handbook to find out how you can and cannot present your involvement in the program. You would never want to say you are a "CFA Level 1". IMHO, that would do the opposite of your intent to make yourself look good. Rather, you would look like someone who doesn't know what that are talking about.
Message: Hi delbo.. Thanks for your message, makes sense. I am in a similar situation, but am considering a career change. Am presently working in the finance department (which is only accounting drudgery, nothing qualified or anything) but before this job I have some good consulting experience and a strong acad. track record. I would like to break into fund management kind of work, and I am meeting an alumni from my univ in the coming week. You mentioned volunteering, I am wondering if you could give me some ideas about how this works? Apoart from asking this friend for his work etc, can I offer to him that I would like to volunteer for his company? Thanks!
