Ever hear of Nelsons? Try reading it. Ever heard of any competitors you liked? Talk to them. Networking and building contacts are the best way to get a job. An anonymous bulletin board on the web won't cut it.
As for being a strong candidate, let me break this to you: outside of a few buyside firms, most firms ARE NOT looking for a tech analyst. They want to develop analysts who can cover multiple industries and eventually move into Portfolio Management. I can't tell you how many resumes I get saying "I'm the greatest expert in XYZ industry." That is a sure way to make me not want to talk to you.
Compensation numbers - I'll give you real ones. Associates get a base salary of between $80k and $100k (usually goes up by about CPI). Bonuses for top performing associates - above $600k. Bonuses for bottom performing associates $25k. It doesn't vary by industry, only by performance. Is that helpful?
I work for a top ten (by assets) AM firm. Prior to this firm, I worked for another large and one small firm. I've seen both sides and at both, if you know a PM or MD and can make an impression - there is room to bring someone one. |

Alex,
For someone who wants to network on this site, you sure know how to piss a lot of people off. If you are so damn sure of yourself, you should have a clue of where to turn and who to talk to. By the way, our MBA arrogance is the same as yours toward "community college HR" people. Get your head out of your ass and learn how to work the system!
