In Reply To: going for a ph.d. is too painfully long for me and going into the academic field as a career is really not what i want to do. to me the trouble is just not quite worth it. right now, being unemployed, i don't have any income so going for another one or tow years doesn't really cost my much extra. esp. i don't foresee the job market to get better soon. maybe a master will not help me much, you are right. i just don't want to leave too long of a blank period on my resume. and when recruiters do come back to campus and recruit, (hopefully), i want to be considered again. right now, i'm quite afraid if i dont go back to school and in one year or so, my resume will simply be thrown out b/c i've graduated for too long and have been doing nothing for too long. i'm not from the u.s. so i can't just start a business...like that, with no eligible residence or money to invest. plus, i have no idea what kind of business to do. in fact, i'm not quite sure if this is the right decision for me at all...
Message: Why don't you just get a job in a bank/Ibank? Just get any job. It doesn't matter what position you do, because what's matter is that you get your foot in the door. I am sure there are many more opporunities once you get in. Also, why not get a professional designation such as CFA? I am sure having that in your resume would makes you an even more attractive candidate to the IBanks.
