Grab a Nelson's Investment Manager's Directory CD and do a search on quant managers (I think Nelson's has the functionality to do that, though I'm not certain).
There are lots of quant firms - shops like Barclays, AXA/Rosenberg, Symphony, Numeric, DE Shaw, Batterymarch, Dimensional, First Quadrant, etc etc etc.
There are several quant professional organizations like the Q group. Check 'em out.

im a phd math student at caltech and don't think I have access to a Nelson's Investment Manager's Directory CD. Do you have any other suggestions where I might find info about firms for quant research?
