I am really new to finance and I was just wondering what the CFA exam was? Is it a good way to get into ibanking or investment management? Will taking this exam impress recruiters? thanks. |

The CFA: it's a test from AIMR (association for investment management and research). Three levels. The test is given only once a year, so it takes at least three years to pass.
It's a pretty tough test, at least levels 2/3 are.
The CFA is pretty much required if you are going to be on the buyside. You don't have to have all three levels to get in at a junior level, but your employer will likely require you to take and pass it.
Sellside? Outside of research, not too many people have it. It's impressive to have, but not so critical.
