In Reply To: Hey- I just got an offer from a *very* large investment manager in Boston (750bil), despite the market woes. Getting into IM is much harder in this environment than the last few years, but it can be done. the easiest way to do this network, network, network. it makes a huge difference. (my offer can thru an alumni contact who passed my resume on with a recommendation) i know one thing that made me stick out was that i am taking the CFA in June, which is very uncommon to take as a college senior. in fact, the place that i am working for typically doesn't even consider college grads, but the CFA really showed i am committed to the industry. my manager (who interviewed me) said the in the IM business, you have to manage the money in good or bad markets so they haven't had the slowdown like IB has had. (I also interviewed for some backdoor IB opportunities but HR put the 'ol hiring freeze on) Basically, keep your head up and make some contacts. You can do it if you want!!! Good luck, J
Message: I agree. Show some incentive, like you're going to take the CFA, Series tests, etc. That'll definitely make you stick out. Network and/or try temping. It'll give you an idea of what's out there and at the same time, help you network. Very large invest. manager in Boston? SSGA I assume? Nice shop.
