CFA does carry more weight. Once you have a CFA, you can become a Chartered Ivestment Counsellor, which is kind of a beefed-up CIMA. |

Some difference is in what you want to do with the designation. If you are going to help ppl choose money managers then the CIMA is plenty. If you want to make actual individual stock picks, the CFA is the way to go.
