I am assuming that an analysts job, a large part of it is research? Where is the source of that information? Does it involve lots of travelling? (to and from a companies business you are researching)
How does sell side research differ from buy side research?
Thanks |

Yes, an analyst's job is mostly research. I get information from the financial statements, conference calls, sell side reports, etc. There are times when you visit what your researching to get a first hand look at something but I wouldn't describe my job as involving "lots of travel" (this might vary though).
Sell side research is similar. At the end of researching something I recommend a course of action to a Portfolio Manager while on the sell side they publish a report and/or express their view to other business units (bankers, traders, etc) at the bank.
