No need to "be nice" better to give DeTekk the truth and let him decide if it is right for him.
DeTekk, there is nothing wrong with stock brokers. By no means am I insinuating that they are crooks. But dont be disillusioned by difference in semantics of job titles. It is for the exact reason for your knee jerk reaction that the word stockbroker has been phased out and replaced by terms like financial planner, investment advisor, welath manager, etc.
As far as compensation, it varies by firm. If you are looking for a cushy salary,security, 9-5 job, where your longevity will increase your compensation, then look elsewhere. If you are hungry and willing to bust your ass for little but the chance to have it pay off, then you have found a home. This is true regardless of whether the title is stockbroker, financial plannner, investment advisor, etc. P
lease note that above description does not include the life of a portfolio manager which is entirely different creature. |

What is the life of a portfolio manager like? What do they actually do? What type of client interaction is there? Do they write the investment policy statements and objectives themselves?
