Hey guys i'm looking to get a good excel book that are gear more towards finance and investment management. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a good one in this area? i'm a recent grad with a degree in computer science, so degree of difficulty in computing is not an issue for me. Basically, i would want to master excel so i could have one more arsenal in my belt when i go for an interview. especially since i have no background in finance, i thought it might be easier for me to get a job by proving my quantitative strengths. someone told me that i should master excel and vba, what do you guys think, and what else would i need to familiar myself with?
also, if anyone could tell me how they get a job in investment management without having a finance background that'd be real helpful. thanks in adance |

If possible, look up the Management Science courses at your, or any, university. Usually, there will be an introductory Management Science course that is centered around learning Excel, in a business context. Just look up the Syallbi online, and find out what book that course is taught from, and then buy that book for yourself.
I have a relatively old, circa 1996, book entitled "Financial Analysis with Microsoft Excel" by Timothy R. Mayes & Todd M. Shank. You could check it out, & see if they have any newer books out.
Most Investment Management uses of the Excel program center around the concept of "Financial Modeling". So you may want to buy a few books on Financial Modeling, if you are really interested in Investment Management.
Excel is a great program that can also be used for a lot of other uses outside of finance. It's worthwhile to learn it, and it definitely won't hurt your career search in any way by taking the time to learn it. Good Luck!
