Hello,
I am new to the message board. I am seeking the assistance of a knowledgeable industry insider who can help me.
My story:
I am a thirty year graduate student in PA. I first became interested in investment management, while working as a financial specialist at a local bank. I didn't like the sales part too much but I became intrigued with the asset management piece. Through a friend I heard about the CFA Charter. This was back in 2001.
I tried to find a spot in the asset management arm of the bank but they weren't hiring at the time due to an upcoming merger. To make a long story short, I ended up leaving the bank around October '01.
Since then, I have enrolled in an MBA program at local Philadelphia on a part-time basis. I currently work at an insurance company, for the last two years, in healthcare management services. Unfortunately, the work has nothing to do with investments.
I have no quantitative or financial modeling experience. I will sit for the CFA exam in Dec '05 after school is done. I can't take it earlier because of family obligations.
What I need to know is this. How should I approach companies given my background? Should I wait to apply for jobs after I complete my MBA, in June, and the first level of the CFA? How would you suggest I get the quant experience?
If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
