In Reply To: Well, it's a small boutique and as an analyst, there was no sign-on bonus. The salary is 10k lower than some firms (45k) with a 17-19k bonus in Dec. Then it becomes 70-80% of salary next year with salary increase every 6 mths. What do u think? I just don't want to work less (hardly any weekend work) for a lot less money as an associate, when I could make 300k at a place like DLJ..What are your thoughts?
Message: It sounds to me like your compensation structure is about in line with what first year analyst comp was expected to be this year. I'd guess that it will probably be adjusted by the time you arrive to be recalibrated to larger firms. The day you make associate is a long way off. Why would you be concerned about that today? You haven't worked a day in the business yet. Give yourself time to figure out if you even like this job before you start worrying yourself about getting underpaid as an associate. There's nothing in the numbers you listed that would have me worried, personally. From an older colleague, let me give you some heartfelt advice: take it one step at a time, and cross bridges as you come to them. You'll have plenty of more important things to worry about than this.
