As an incoming associate, I'd be interested to know the answer to this as well. Airline tickets for major holidays like Thanksgiving are considerably cheaper if purchased far in advance, but I don't want to buy the ticket unless I'm sure I'm going to be able to get off.
Also, you hear a lot about i-bankers having their vacations cancelled at the last minute. Do the banks reimburse you for unrecoverable expenses (e.g. non-refundable deposits) when this happens?
