Tech M&A Banker,
Thanks for all your input.
What do you know about the different real estate groups on the Street? Which firms are best known for strong real estate groups and/or high deal flow? What kinds of deals do they do? How big are these deals?
I never hear anyone talk about real estate on these message boards. Why is that? It can't be that real estate IB is that insignificant, can it? For example, isn't the MSDW real estate group one of their biggest in terms of number of anaylsts employed? Is this just not a "sexy" area?
I've heard that real estate IB was bigger in the early 1990s. Do you have any info about what was going on?
Is it better to work abroad in real estate IB (Europe, Asia) than in the U.S.?
Also, what kinds of opportunities are available to analysts who work for a real estate group? And how are these opportunities different than those available for an anaylst with experience in another group? Does real estate IB "pigeon-hole" or "label" people?
THANK YOU! |

Tech M&A banker,
Are other I-banks planning to increase their associate starting package in response to DLJ ie. 300K 1st year, 400K 2nd year, etc? The standard I-banking package is 25K signing, 80K base, 30K year-end snub bonus.
Is this about right?
I-banks are raising their analyst salaries across the board, are they going to follow through with associate packages for MBA grads?
I know it is tough to put an accurate number on this, but what % of associates make it to the VP level 4 years later? What % make it to MD? I know this is highly variable, but any thoughts you have on this would be valuable?
Of those who leave, what portion leave voluntarily for better opportunities ie. LBO/VC/hedge funds, and what proportion are forced out because they are not good enough?
Is their any semblance of job security in IB?
