In Reply To: I am a student @ a Canadian university. -want to work on Wall Street in Research or IBanking. -BB's nor boutiques do not recruit at my school. -No alumni to speak of. Questions: -What approach should I take? I am a little hesitant in sending my resume to the blackhole that is HR, for fear that it will be ignored, given the geographical distance. -And should I be considered, how do I get around the immigration/work visa loophole? Do banks sponsor intl. students? Thanks, and god bless your kind soul.
Message: hard one...being international is not a problem. if you have everything in order, good grades, good resume and cover letter expressing your interests and for what you are applying, send it in. to prevent being ignored, follow up with a call. if rejected, ask why and what/how you can improve your candidacy. you simply need to get your foot in the door, and that will be hard coming from canada... i would expand my horizons to include S&T and Asset Management oppsl; your intention is to get into a good firm, period. to my knowledge, some banks have operations in toronto and i would consider them as well...apply everywhere and let the chips fall where they may...
