In Reply To: As a young person looking at B-schools and getting feedback from older colleagues, the range of places at which I should apply, according to them, does not expand beyond the top 10 school, of which LBS is not one...people have however, mentioned that LSE is a fantastic opportunity id I realize the Derivatives business is an area in which I would like to return and can care less about business management and marketing. But from a traditional MBA point of view, unless you're a European national planning on working in Europe, LBS doesnt seem to compare to those top 10 US school in any stretch of the imagination...
Message: Since you mentioned "top 10" you must be into rankings. Well, up til now there has been only one ranking of Business Schools on a worldwide basis (I'm referring to the Financial Times) and LBS was ranked #8. I believe LBS will also show in the top ten on the next ranking by BW. Apart from that you seem a little bit superficial and very inaccurate when you give such drastic comments on a school like LBS which is obviously top notch. I would suggest that you go and visit the school, talk to the students there and try to develop a more objective opinion. Maybe, then, you will find that you like what you see and feel like you fit. After all you must have given LBS some thought otherwise you would not be on this thread. On the other hand, maybe you are right and the best school for you is indeed an American one like Chicago or Wharton or any other that you like. Hey, nobody is arguing that some schools in the U.S are great: they are indeed, but to say that LBS does not even come close to them is an absurdity.
