does anyone know the general reputations of the BB's and top boutiques in equity research? Are their reps basically similar to the IB rankings (i.e. GS and MS on top)?

Research reputations are similar to IB reps. Check out Institutional Investor. They are *the* rating system for research analysts. Wall Street Journal comes out with a yearly report on All Star Analysts every summer.
