In Reply To: I'll bet you are the guy that's been on these boards posting things like "Goldman Sachs Rules!!", or other such useful over testosteroned comments. You frat fucks are all the same. You've got about three brain cells and two of them are in your dick. Doesn't leave much room for thought now does it? Maybe you are right fun loving frat-boy, as you like to call yourself. Perhaps I should go back to school and hone up on my date rape and groping abilities in your fraternity. I'm sure these coveted social social skills will come in handy for me. Have they served you well? Or perhaps I should dust off the old funnel and practice pouring multiple beers down my throat with a bunch of other half wits. Would this help me? No, wait, I know what I should do. Maybe I should go to few more football games, paint my face in the team colors and practice some of my neanderthal yelling techniques. These are the IMPORTANT social skills. You know what, you can have the sales job. I'm clearly not "good" enough to hang with you.
Message: Generally, you do go to a ton of sporting events because they are social events that almost everyone likes to attend. Generally, you go out to dinner before the event at a nice restaurant. Also, playing golf with clients is big because that is what most people like to do. Titty bars? I've never taken a client nor has anyone else on my desk but I wouldn't have a problem going if they wanted to. What else are you going to do? You can't socialize taking clients to a play, movie, or concert. The generalizations about inst. sales are like all generalizations. People tend to take an things that occur 5% of the time in a professin and generalize that it happens 100% of the time (ex. i-bank analysts who say they avg. 85 hrs. per week). The generalization that inst. salesman are booze hounds with great personalities who know how to schmooze is wrong. Inst. salesmans' personalities range from quiet to outgoing. Some guys don't really drink. Some guys aren't outright dorks. It just depends. However, what everyone seems to possess (which for the most part is learned on the job) is bullshit skills. You've got to sound confident when discussing a stock to a client when in actuallity you know very little about the stock.
