Message: I agree that people place to much emphasis on rankings. I'll also add this... It's my understanding that many b-schools (e.g. HBS) do not allow disclosure of grades during recruiting. If that's the case, then where does some prick who lands a job at Goldman from HBS get off bragging about how much better he is than some other guy who perhaps wound up at Salomon. Fella #2 might have had better grades and be an all-around smarter guy. I'll be the first to acknowledge that GS is a stronger bank than SSB, but not b/c of anybody that posts on this board. There are numerous reasons why somebody might end up at one bank over another, and many of these reasons have nothing to do with individual merit. I guess my point is that, until you feel you are worthy of some level of personal recognition for the success of your particular bank, keep your mouth shut about how much cooler you are than everybody else.
